The answer the Bible gives

God created man and woman, and he established that sexual relations should only take place between husband and wife (Genesis 1:27, 28; Leviticus 18:22; Proverbs 5:18, 19).

Thus, sexual relations between persons of the same sex or between a man and a woman who are not spouses are forbidden by God (1 Corinthians 6:18). This prohibition covers oral and anal sex, as well as masturbating another person.

Now, although the Bible disapproves of homosexual acts, it also disapproves of homophobia—that is, the hatred of homosexuals—for it gives us this command: “Respect everyone” (1 Peter 2:17, New Living Translation).

Can someone be born homosexual?

The Bible indicates that we are all born with a tendency to go against God’s commandments (Romans 7:21-25). However, it says nothing specific about the genetics of homosexuality or the cause of homosexual desires. What it does say is that God condemns homosexual acts, that is, carrying out said desires.

Can you please God despite having homosexual impulses?

The Bible says: “Put to death all his evil desires; do not have forbidden sexual relations […], dominate your evil desires” (Colossians 3:5, Translation in current language). To put to death bad desires, which can lead to serious faults, we must learn to dominate our thoughts and fill our minds with healthy things, things that help us fight those desires (Philippians 4:8; James 1:14, fifteen). It may be very difficult to achieve at first, but with time it becomes easier and easier. God promises to help us achieve it. According to the Bible, we can “be made new in the force that drives [our] minds” (Ephesians 4:22-24).

It is worth mentioning that those who have homosexual desires are not the only ones who must fight against their impulses. Millions of people have to control their desires in order to please God. They include single men and women whose circumstances may prevent them from marrying, as well as those who are married to someone unable to have sexual relations. They all have to control their impulses and resist temptations. And yet they are happy. Likewise, those who have homosexual inclinations but really want to please God can also exercise self-control and be happy (Deuteronomy 30:19).
